Labor Day weekend is packed. Fiesta takes over Hermosa, the horse show returns to the Hill, and Seaside Lagoon gets one last weekend before closing for the season.

The Portuguese Bend National Horse Show returns to Ernie Howlett Park for three days of jumping and hunting competitions. You can watch the horses in two show rings, then walk through the food booths and local shops.
There is plenty for kids too. Children's Circle has games, face painting, a magic show, and an animal show. Friday admission is free, and weekend ticket sales support Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

Cruzin' the Lagoon keeps things simple Friday afternoon. There are no trophies or raffles, just cars lined up at the Redondo Beach Marina and people walking around to check them out. This is one of the final meets of the season.

Seaside Lagoon reopens Friday for its final four days of the season. That gives you one more weekend for the saltwater pool, sandy beach, and water slides before everything closes until next summer.
Labor Day Monday is the final day. The lagoon will stay open until 5:45 PM.

Start Saturday stretched out on the grass at South Coast Botanic Garden. Nature Waves will lead a 90-minute sound bath where you can close your eyes, slow down, and listen. Matcha follows the session, and you can walk through the garden afterward.

Want live music without the Fiesta crowds? Rockefeller on Catalina is hosting three local acts in its garden Saturday afternoon: Charis Rey & Friends, Feed the Kitty, and Retrofit. Get there early, grab something to eat, and stay for one band or all three.

Fiesta Hermosa takes over downtown for all three days of Labor Day weekend. Pier Plaza will have free live music, plus food booths, local makers, and a small carnival nearby.
If you want the 21+ side of Fiesta, The Garden at 11th and Hermosa has its own stage and a $10 cover. Parking will be tough, so skip circling downtown and take the free shuttle from Manhattan Beach.

CBVA is bringing two days of competitive beach volleyball to the Hermosa Pier during Fiesta weekend. The Open divisions include a $2,500 prize, and it is free to watch from the sand.
If the Fiesta booths start feeling crowded, walk down from Pier Plaza and catch a few matches.

Petty Theft returns to Wilson Park on Saturday for a free Tom Petty tribute show. This is one of those Torrance concerts that locals come back for every summer.
Bring a blanket or lawn chair and head to the amphitheater behind the splash pad. The concert ends at 6:30, so you still have time to grab dinner or head to Fiesta afterward.

Torrance Art Museum turns into a movie theater for the day on Saturday. The Fine Arts Film Festival will show about 16 films inside the museum, so you can stop in for one group or stay for a few.
Admission and Civic Center parking are both free. If you cannot make it Saturday, the full 90-film festival will be available online through September 30.

🎨 An Evening Submerged: The Art of Marineland

Long before Terranea opened, Marineland of the Pacific sat on the same land. Artist Addison Loomis would get inside the tanks and paint the marine animals while swimming next to them.
On Sunday, his full collection will return to the property for one night. It is only the second time in 10 years that all the paintings have been shown together. His son, Scott Loomis, will also be there to share the stories behind them.
A portion of ticket sales will support local marine mammal care.

For seven years, South Bay Music Connection has helped young musicians do something that is hard to find around here: play a real show in front of a real crowd.
You may have seen them at Fiesta Hermosa, the Riviera Village Summer Festival, Project Barley, or another local event. For some of the musicians, it is their first time playing outside a practice room. They get stage time, meet other artists, and start getting comfortable in front of a crowd.
To keep these shows going, they need sound equipment that can keep up. Their current PA speakers cannot, so they are raising $3,000 for new ones.
