Peak Summer Is Pulling Its Weight

Hello South Bay!
So about Tuesday... the LA Galaxy is throwing a World Cup party right on the sand in Hermosa. Big screens, players, free merch, the whole thing. That alone would make this a good week, but there's also Greek food all weekend, kids' bike races, beach soccer, and concerts basically every night.

Event Spotlights
🇬🇷 South Bay Greek Festival
📍 St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church, Redondo Beach
🕒 Friday, July 10 thru Sunday, July 12
💰 $5 entry, kids under 12 free
This is one of those South Bay weekends where dinner plans basically make themselves. The South Bay Greek Festival takes over St. Katherine’s for three days with food, music, dancing, and the kind of neighborhood crowd that makes it feel bigger than a church festival. Come hungry, give yourself time, and do not pretend you are leaving without something sweet.
🔹 Friday runs 5-10 PM
🔹 Saturday runs noon-10 PM, Sunday runs noon-9 PM
🔹 Food, dancing, kids activities, raffle, and Greek market on site
🌊 South Bay Dozen
📍 Torrance Beach, Torrance
🕒 Saturday, July 11 | Events begin in the morning
💰 Free for spectators
One of the South Bay’s signature summer sporting events returns to Torrance Beach for its 20th year. The South Bay Dozen brings together elite lifeguards, junior athletes, and ocean sports enthusiasts for a full day of surf races, relay competitions, and teamwork, all while raising money for the Jimmy Miller Foundation. Even if you’re not competing, it’s a fun morning to watch some of the area’s best ocean athletes in action.
🔹 Features 12 ocean racing events throughout the day
🔹 Includes elite, junior, and team competitions
🔹 Benefits the Jimmy Miller Foundation
🧌 Thomas Dambo's TROLLS: A Field Study
📍 South Coast Botanic Garden, 26300 Crenshaw Blvd., Palos Verdes Peninsula
🕒 Daily, 8 AM–5 PM (last entry 4:30 PM) | Now through the summer
💰 Included with General Garden Admission
If you haven't been up to see the trolls yet, this is your sign. Twelve giant trolls built entirely from reclaimed wood are hiding across the Garden's 87 acres, and finding them all turns a regular garden walk into a full-on treasure hunt. They're officially here to "study humans," which the kids fully buy into and honestly, so do the adults. It's one of the most fun things in the South Bay right now.
🔹 Free with regular Garden admission
🔹 Guided Troll Treks on weekends, 12:30 & 2:30 PM
🔹 Tiny Troll Treks and Mobility Rides for easier access
⚽ LA Galaxy Soccer Celebration
📍 Beach and Strand south of the Hermosa Pier
🕒 Tuesday, July 14-Wednesday, July 15 | 11 AM-2 PM
💰 Free
This is probably the biggest beach moment of the week. The City of Hermosa Beach and LA Galaxy are setting up a multi-day soccer celebration right on the sand for the World Cup semifinals. Expect big-screen match viewing, player and alumni appearances, youth programming, giveaways, limited-edition merch, and plenty of people taking a very strategic lunch break.
🔹 Tuesday and Wednesday semifinal viewings start at 11 AM
🔹 Kickoff is listed for noon both days
🔹 Free and open to the public
🧘 Yoga on the Pier - RB

Yoga on the Pier brings the community together for a free all-levels class overlooking the Pacific, making it an easy way to start your Saturday before grabbing breakfast or spending the day at the beach. Just bring a yoga mat, a towel, and some water, then enjoy one of the best views in the South Bay while you stretch.

Manhattan Beach Concerts in the Park is back in full summer rhythm, and this week brings Las Chikas to Polliwog Park. The all-female salsa band gives this one a little more personality than the usual blanket-and-lawn-chair Sunday concert. Bring food, show up earlier than you think, and let the kids run around while the grownups settle in.
🔹 Free Sunday concert at Polliwog Park
🔹 Low-backed chairs, blankets, and picnics are the move

📸 South Bay Snapshot
That's it for this week!
July is doing what July is supposed to do. There are beach crowds, park blankets, long evenings, and enough going on that you can actually be picky.
If you have a friend who's always asking "what's going on this weekend?", this is your excuse to look like the plugged-in one.
Forward it along.
See you out there,
Jaime
