Where to eat in the South Bay.
The move: pick a pocket, not a restaurant. Every beach city has one. Hermosa Pier, the Redondo Pier, Riviera Village, Old Torrance, Manhattan Beach downtown, Main Street El Segundo. Eat well, then walk it off. Dinner is just the start of the night.
Where should I eat in the South Bay?
Start with the strip closest to you. El Segundo is Main Street. Manhattan Beach is the pier, Manhattan Avenue, and Highland. Hermosa is Pier Avenue. Redondo splits between the waterfront and Riviera Village. Torrance is Old Torrance and Smog City at 1901 Del Amo. On the hill, use Malaga Cove and Golden Cove.
Downtown Manhattan Beach
Pier, Manhattan Avenue, and Highland. The Tuesday farmers market is at the Civic Center, not on the sand.
Hermosa Pier Avenue
Walk down from the pier. The Strand is the long way between beaches if you would rather earn dinner.
Riviera Village, Redondo
The inland village, a few blocks up from the pier and King Harbor. Separate walk from the waterfront.
Old Torrance
Around El Prado and the civic center. Smog City brews at 1901 Del Amo, and it's already on the lineup when there's a show.
Palos Verdes
Malaga Cove and Golden Cove are the short lists. Yellow Vase in Golden Cove is the coffee stop.
When are the South Bay farmers markets?
Two markets are easy to plan around. Downtown Manhattan Beach runs Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Civic Center lot on 15th Street. Hermosa Beach runs Friday, noon to 4 p.m., at Valley Drive and 11th. The longer weekly list, El Segundo through Palos Verdes, is on the farmers markets page.
Where can I get a drink near the water?
For a drink you can walk off, use Hermosa Pier Avenue or the Redondo waterfront. Rockefeller in Redondo is the garden-concert spot. Smog City at 1901 Del Amo is the Torrance brewery already on the lineup. Palos Verdes coffee is Yellow Vase in Golden Cove. Hours move, so check the door.

One-off dinners, fairs, and tasting nights are on the events page, not a permanent best-of list. Toast on the Coast, the El Segundo Main Street Fair, and Manhattan Beach Food and Wine show up there when they are actually happening. The Thursday letter is the weekly pass.
